This morning in Paris, Junya Watanabe delivered a stunningly smart and masculine collection with a Japanese twist, accessorised with bowler and top hats. But what stood out the most is his choice of models: in a world generally saturated with white faces, it was refreshing to say the least to see such a beautiful ethnic mix on the catwalk! We love!
Jean Pierre Braganza is the latest name to join the River Island Design Forum ranks. The London-based designer has created an 11-piece collection for the high-street label, drawing on his signature prints, architectural silhouettes and urban attitude.
The capsule edit – which uses the kingfisher bird as its stimulus – comprises shirt dresses, boilers suits, bomber jackets and zip-embellished jeans priced between £35 and £100, and lands in stores and online on February 16 – just in time for Fashion Week!

Fashion Scout’s spring/summer 2014 Merit Award winner, Yulia Kondranina is known for her ethereal fringed silhouettes and block colouring. As the latest winner of this award she will be given a fully-sponsored catwalk show and exhibition at both London and Paris Fashion Week!! Previous winners of the award have been David Koma, Phoebe English (see previous blog), Hermione de Paula and Eudon Choi, so we are sure that she will NOT disappoint!
The colour trends were no surprise given the seasonality of the shows, with blacks and greys dominating the ranges and touches of bright hues adding pop to the collections. Fabrics included leather, vinyl and pleather all in dark shades and piles creating ‘Teddy Bear hide’ faux fur looks in canary yellow. Silhouettes were clean and tailored with flattering down jackets coming in a variety of designs, wide legged trousers for women and suits coming in bold all over patterns.
Collection highlights for us were those of pushBUTTON, Kwak Hyun Joo, Johnny Hates Jazz and CRES. E. DIM. We can’t wait until some of these collections make it to the UK and are already looking forward to seeing what SS 14 in Seoul has to offer.
